We build therapist websites and sell visibility plans, so we have an interest in this topic. To keep the guide fair, every price comes from the company’s own page, which we checked on October 22, 2026, nobody is ranked, and we list ourselves last.
What does a therapist website cost, route by route?
It costs about $400 in the first year if you build it yourself, and about $1,500 to $9,500 up front if a studio designs it, with monthly plans in between. Here are the routes side by side.
Prices checked October 22, 2026. Prices are in US dollars, and companies change them without notice.
| Route | What you pay up front | What you pay monthly or yearly | What is usually included | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Builder you set up yourself | $0 to start; free trials or free plans | $4 to $22 a month for entry plans on annual billing | Hosting, templates and an editor; a free domain for the first year on several | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 |
| Website from your practice software | $0 | SimplePractice: no added charge on its $49 to $99 plans. Jane: $59 a month | A simple site linked to your account | 7, 8, 9, 10 |
| Therapist website platform | $100 to $199 setup | $69 to $99 a month for entry plans; up to $349 with marketing bundled in | Template design, hosting, domain management, support | 11, 12 |
| Studio-built site with a monthly plan | $0 to $2,499 | $49 to $239 a month | Design, hosting, edits, support; some add SEO | 13, 14, 15 |
| Custom or semi-custom build, mostly one-time | $920 to $9,500 | Hosting or care plans optional: $150 to $1,495 a month | Design and build; copywriting on some | 16, 17, 18 |
| Therapy Visibility (us) | $799 design fee | $149, $349 or $599 a month, month to month; 20% less billed annually | A fully custom site of up to 10 pages, hosting, upkeep, monthly edits and, if you need one, a domain registered in your practice’s name; the two higher plans add search and AI work every month | Our pricing page |
What do you pay for with each route?
You pay for tools, design or upkeep, and the price follows how much of that someone else does for you.
- Builder: you pay the company for hosting and tools, and you pay in hours for design, writing and edits. Monthly billing costs more than annual, for example Squarespace Basic is $25 against $19 (the page says paying annually saves money), and Wix Light is $24 against $17.1, 3
- Practice software: SimplePractice lists its Professional Website as included on Starter, Essential and Plus.7 Jane says a Jane Website “is not included in your standard Jane subscription” and is a separate add-on.10 On both, you connect a domain bought from a third-party provider.19, 10
- Therapist platform: a studio-designed template, hosting and support for a monthly fee plus a setup fee. TherapySites charges a $199 one-time fee and Brighter Vision a $100 setup fee on its monthly plans.11, 12
- Studio with a monthly plan: the studio builds the site and keeps it running. Empathysites describes its $97 a month as covering “hosting, security and backups” and unlimited updates, one request at a time.15
- Custom build: you pay for design and copy once, then separately for hosting and care if you want them. HiveSourced says its “website maintenance and hosting starts from $200/month, and $150/month for custom websites.”16

Brighter Vision’s page also offers yearly billing and says it saves money, but we could not capture those prices, so the figures above are its monthly ones. We could not find a website product on the TherapyNotes or PracticeQ pricing pages.23, 24
What is included, and what costs extra?
Most plans include hosting and the editing tools, and leave out your domain after the first year, business email, a HIPAA-ready form, booking and sometimes edits. Prices checked October 22, 2026.
| Add-on | Option | Published price | What it says about a BAA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain name | Namecheap .com | $11.28 the first year (sale price; a new-customer special of $6.48 is also listed), $18.48 to renew, per year25 | Not applicable |
| Email with a BAA | Google Workspace Starter | $7 per user per month on the one-year commitment option26 | Customers “must enter a Business Associate Amendment (BAA) with Google”27 |
| HIPAA email and forms | Hushmail for Healthcare, Essentials | $13.75 a month on yearly billing ($164.89 a year), 3 forms28 | “Get a signed business associate agreement (BAA) for healthcare providers”29 |
| HIPAA email and forms | Paubox Standard | $32 a month for up to 5 senders; we could not confirm whether that is the monthly or annual rate30 | “Paubox includes a BAA with all accounts”30 |
| Forms and intake | IntakeQ Forms Only | $54.90 a month31 | Lists “HIPAA BAA” among its features31 |
| Forms | Jotform | Price could not be confirmed | HIPAA features are on “Gold and Enterprise plans only”32 |
Watch the second year. Squarespace says its free domain “will renew at our standard rate” after the first year, and Namecheap’s renewal price is higher than its first-year price.1, 25 Squarespace’s free Google Workspace year also renews at the standard rate.1
Edits differ more than the headline price suggests. Brighter Vision promises changes “within 2 business days,” therapistdesign includes one website change a month on its Essential plan, and Empathysites includes unlimited updates one request at a time.12, 14, 15
Booking is separate too. SimplePractice lists an appointment request widget for an outside website on Plus only, which is $99 a month, and not on Starter or Essential.7 If you use SimplePractice, our guide to adding SimplePractice booking to your website walks through each builder. If you use another EHR, check which of its plans lets you embed booking.
Do you need to pay for HIPAA compliance on a website?
Usually only for the parts of your site that handle health information. A page with your bio and fees stores nothing about a client, while a contact or intake form can, so the tool behind the form is where a signed business associate agreement (BAA) matters.
HHS says a provider may use a cloud service for electronic protected health information “provided the covered entity or business associate enters into a HIPAA-compliant business associate contract or agreement (BAA) with the CSP.”33 It adds that using one without a BAA puts the provider “in violation of the HIPAA Rules.”33 Whether a form on your site meets that description depends on what people write into it, which our contact form guide works through. The same question applies to tracking tools, covered in our Google Analytics guide.
Builders differ in what they will sign, in their own words, and our website builders comparison sets them side by side:
- Wix: “We recommend that you do not collect, store, or process any PHI on your Wix site until you have activated PHI protection and completed the BAA signing process.” It also says you need a supported Premium or Studio plan and lists the plans that qualify, so check yours before you rely on it.34
- Squarespace: its terms say that for industry rules such as HIPAA you are “solely responsible for such compliance, except to the extent Squarespace has agreed with you in writing otherwise.” The same terms refer to accounts “designated as HIPAA-enabled” that enter “a separate business associate agreement with Squarespace,” but we could not confirm which plans qualify.35
- WordPress.com: a support-forum reply to a question posted November 3, 2025 says “we don’t offer HIPAA-compliant plans or BAAs on WordPress.com.”36
- Showit and GoDaddy: we could not confirm a BAA statement on the pages we checked.
In practice there are two cheaper paths than upgrading a builder. Keep health information off the website and send people to your EHR’s own booking page or portal, or pay for a HIPAA-ready form tool, which the add-on table prices from about $14 a month on yearly billing.28 Therapist platforms bundle this at different tiers: TherapySites sells secure email and forms as an add-on starting at $15 a month, and Brighter Vision includes Hushmail forms in its Flourish plan.11, 12

What does a website cost over three years?
Our examples run from about $1,200 for a builder-based site to about $14,100 for a custom build with a care plan, because monthly fees and add-ons repeat every year. A website that comes with your practice software can cost far less to add. These are examples built from published prices checked October 22, 2026, not quotes, and they leave out tax, promotions, price changes and your own time.
| Example route | Arithmetic from the published prices | Three-year total |
|---|---|---|
| Builder, domain and HIPAA form tool: Squarespace Basic, Namecheap .com, Hushmail Essentials1, 25, 28 | $19 × 36 months = $684; $11.28 + $18.48 + $18.48 = $48.24; $164.89 × 3 = $494.67 | $1,227 (first year about $404) |
| Practice software site: SimplePractice Professional Website plus a Namecheap domain7, 25 | $0 added to your plan; $48.24 for the domain | $48 on top of the plan you already pay |
| Practice software site: Jane Websites plus a Namecheap domain9, 25 | $59 × 36 = $2,124; $48.24 for the domain | $2,172 on top of your Jane plan |
| Therapist platform: TherapySites Core with its secure email and forms add-on11 | $199 + ($69 × 36 = $2,484) + ($15 × 36 = $540) | $3,223 |
| Therapist platform: Brighter Vision Start with its Startup HIPAA email and forms add-on, monthly plan12 | $100 + ($99 × 36 = $3,564) + ($14.99 × 36 = $539.64) | $4,204 |
| Studio with a monthly plan: Empathysites Design plus Hushmail Essentials15, 28 | $1,499 + ($97 × 36 = $3,492) + $494.67 | $5,486 |
| Custom build with the entry care plan: Credible by Design solo site17 | $3,500 + ($295 × 36 = $10,620) | $14,120; or $3,500 with no care plan, plus hosting you buy yourself |
| Studio with a monthly plan: Therapy Visibility Foundations (us), billed annually, with the domain we register for you | $799 + ($119 × 36 = $4,284) | $5,083; or $6,163 billed monthly |
In the first example, ask the form company how its form connects to your site. Two things move these numbers most. A care plan multiplies by 36, so it is the line to question. A first-year promotion falls away, so ask for the second-year price in writing.
When is the cheapest route the right one?
When your practice is full or nearly full and the site only needs to say who you are, what you charge and how to book. A builder can do that for a few hundred dollars a year, and the website that comes with your practice software can cost even less, plus an hour or two of your time a month.
The cheaper route also fits you if you enjoy building pages, or if you have only a handful of pages and few changes. Keep health information out of any form on a builder that will not sign a BAA, and send booking to your EHR.
Whatever you choose, the site also has to carry license details where your board requires them. California’s rule is one example, covered in our advertising rule guide. Check your own board’s rules.
When is paying more worth it?
When your time is worth more than the fee, or when you want someone else to write, design and keep the site current. That can matter for a group practice, a new specialty, or anyone who has put off a rewrite for a year.
No price on this page promises inquiries or rankings, so judge a higher price by what the quote lists. Our guide to SEO and AI visibility work covers what extra monthly work should look like, our guide to what SEO services cost lists published prices for that work, and domain naming is a decision to make before you buy anything.
Therapy Visibility is one of the paid options. We design and write a fully custom site of up to 10 pages, with no templates, page builders or pre-written copy, host and maintain it, place your license details to meet your state board’s advertising rules, and link booking to the scheduler you already use. After a $799 design fee, plans are $149, $349 or $599 a month, month to month, and you work with the person who builds your site.
What we do differently. The two higher plans keep working after launch: one page or profile improved every month, with a report on why we chose it and how we checked it, and a quarterly check of what ChatGPT, Google’s AI and others say about you, fixing the sources behind wrong answers when we can. We follow changes in search and AI and try new methods where they make sense. Our pricing page has the plans and terms.
We are the wrong choice if your practice is full and needs a simple page, or if you enjoy doing it yourself. A builder or your EHR’s site costs less and does the job.
What should a quote include before you sign?
It should state every recurring cost and what happens if you leave. Copy this checklist into your email to any company:
- Setup fee: the amount, and what it covers.
- Monthly or yearly fee: the amount, and what it covers, such as hosting, security, backups and edits.
- Contract length and renewal: the term, and whether it renews on its own.
- Cancellation and refunds: Brighter Vision, for example, says it is “unable to offer refunds” for monthly subscribers.12
- Domain: who is the registrant, and what the renewal price is after the first year.
- Ownership and export: what you can take with you. Empathysites says you own your content, while the design is licensed to you “while you are on our platform.”15
- Edits: how many, how fast, and who makes them.
- Forms and BAA: where form messages go, and whether the company will sign a BAA.
- Extras: email, booking, copywriting, SEO, extra pages.
Questions therapists also ask
Can I get a therapist website for free?
Yes, but not with your own domain. WordPress.com’s free plan gives you a WordPress.com subdomain and shows its ads, and Wix’s free plan uses a wixsite.com domain with Wix branding.3, 4 A paid plan removes both.
Is the website that comes with my EHR enough?
It may be, for a simple practice. SimplePractice describes its Professional Website as “a simple, clean foundation” that pulls details from your account settings, and you can connect a domain bought elsewhere.37, 19 Test it during the trial and see whether you need more pages or control.
Do I pay every month after the site is built?
It depends on the route. HiveSourced says that once it builds your site “you own it,” with no monthly fees unless you want it to host and manage the site. Platforms and studio monthly plans charge each month for hosting and upkeep for as long as you stay.16, 11, 15
Who owns the domain if I leave?
Ask before you sign. Brighter Vision says, “You still fully, 100% own your domain name,” and that it does not charge release fees.12 We could not confirm this on the other pages we checked, so get it in writing.
Does a more expensive website bring more clients?
Price alone doesn’t tell you. No quote can promise inquiries, so compare what is included and what happens after year one.
Where to start
List what you need: pages, booking, a form, edits, and how much you want to do yourself. Then use the checklist above on two or three options. If you want a fully custom site we maintain, from $149 a month after a $799 design fee, find the plan that fits your practice.
